Sewing Lessons

I frequently teach Adults and children over 8 years old to sew. You will find some of the courses I run available below, however for best results I recommend contacting me so we can discus your needs and the availability of the courses  available in the workshops.

Sewing Teaching Workshop

Back to Basics Learn to Sew Level 1

New to sewing? This workshop is for complete beginners, or for those who have a machine and no idea how to use it.

We will go through the parts of the machine, how to thread your machine, tension, stitches, and how to wind your bobbin.

We will cover basic skills on using your machine, and we will make a bag out of Recycled fabrics for you to take home at the end of the workshop.

If you dont have a sewing machine you can rent one of ours for £5

First come first served.!

You will take home worksheets to remind you when you are home.

Dressmaking Course - Basic Wardrobe StaplesT Shirt.

£ 80.00 

This course is for the Confident beginner. We will be working with stretch fabrics. Learning to adapt a pattern, how to lay it out, cut out, and construct a T Shirt that should be a calssic for your wardrobe. This will take us about 6 hours, so we will take a break at 12.30 for lunch. Tea and Coffee is provided, but you will need to provide your own packed lunch, as we do not have a proper kitchen.


Pattern and Fabric will be supplied. Choose between Blakc or White when you book.

We will purchase the fabric ahead of the lesons, an we will need to know if you want black or white and also the general size  so that we can provide the correct pattern size.

Saturday 17th February 2018  9.30 - 3.30pm 

Learn to Sew - Level 2 A Basic Skirt

£ 45.00 

This is for those who have a knowledge of thier sewing machine, and would like to start to make ther own clothes. Fabrics and patterns will have to be purchased before the course begins. We will learn how to lay out a pattern, the pattern basic symbols and what they mean. We will cut out, and consruct a simple skirt. 

Please bring along your own sewing machine. If you don't have a machine you can hire one of ours for £5 per lesson. First come first served.!!

Saturday 27th January 2018 9.30am-12.30pm

Learn to sew - Level 1 (Cushion cover)

£ 50.00 


9.30am - 12.30pm

Gain a little confidence, and create easy home furnishings. By making Envelope cushion covers and also a cover with a zip. You will need a zip foot for your machine. Fabrics and cushion pads are supplied, we use recycled fabrics from the workshop. IF you want to bring in your own fabrics then you will need to have this before the lesson.

An Ideal time to make a cushion for Morthersday, or Valentines.


Recycled or Remnant fabrics provided.

Sewing machines can be borrowed if you dont have your own.You will go home with Worksheets to remind you of your day.

A Line Dress/or Basic Block Dress

£ 60.00 

This is a FULL day workshop. We will take a break for lunch.

On this course we will be making an A line dress, or if you have skills, the Basic Block Dress, 60's style as seen on the Sewing Bee.

9.30-11.30 Laying out your pattern, and cutting out your garment.

11.30- 12.30 Inserting a Zip, darts, and general construction of the garment.

12.30 Lunch

1pm Continue with General Construction.

Please bring along your own sewing machine. If you don't have a machine you can hire one of ours for £5.00 per lesson. First come first Served.

Saturday 24th February 2018 9.30 - 3.30pm

Making Knickers!

£ 25.00 


Always a popular course this one. With plenty of laughter.  ( Can also be booked for Ladies Parties, Birthdays, Hen Do's etc).

You will need to have 1/2 metre o cotton lawn or other fine fabrics for your knickers and some pretty knicker elastic. ( The amount will depend on your sice, but 2m is usually ample).

You will be making a pair of knickers with a cotton, floating gusset.

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING FABRIC AND ELASTIC WITH YOU.   Alternatively it can be ordered in advance through the shop.

Evening Classes

Thursday  Evenings  through out 2018

7.30 - 9.30pm

6 Week Course, make a dress with zip, darts, sleeves and facings.

Week One. Basic Sewing Machine Skills, refresher with using your machin, and discussions about the items we are to do in the following weeks.

Week two. Choosing the pattern, taking your measurements, and reading a pattern. Recommendations for the fabrics suitable for your chosen project.

Week Three. Adapting your pattern, laying out, and cutting out. Transferring markings etc.

Week Four. Making up your garment, darts, seams and inserting Zips.

Week 5 Finishing your garments.

Week 6 continuing work on your garment if you still need time. Teething problems, and general questions and answers, demonstrations of techniques etc as needed.


You will be required to purchase fabrics suitable in advance of the classes.

Making a Tote Bag

With the price of carrier bags now on the Eco Agenda, lets make a bag for your to carry around to place those last minute shopping buys in.

Create your own unique bag, you may use fabrics from the shop or bring in your own if you prefer.

PJ Bottoms/Lounge Pants/elasticated casual Trousers

£ 50.00 

On this course we will be making a simple pair of summer weight trousers (or sleep pjs). You will have to have your pattern and fabrics sorted before the lesson begins.

We will be showing you how to read a commercial pattern, pin and cut out your trousers. How to sew side seams, and how to sew an elasticated waistline.

Pattern Cutting

£ 25.00 

This workshop is more about the knowledge required to read and understand a pattern. Taking notes may be wise.

I will show you a commercial pattern, and discuss the symbols and the information standard to most patterns. I will also show you the types of other patterns that are available to draft from books and magazines.

Block Booking Children's Lessons

Take advantage of a block booking, and save money. Book 5 lessons usually £10 a lesson and save £5.00

Jacket/box jacket/Channel Style

£ 80.00 

You will need to choose your fabrics and collect your pattern before hand.

On this course, for those who already have a basic knowledge of their sewing machines and who want to continue to create a staple wardrobe, this is an ideal course for you. We will be continued thiw the staple wardrobe items, and create a simple jacket, with pockets and buttonholes, darts and inserting sleeves. This is not for the Beginner.

Basic Applique

£ 25.00 

An introduction to basic applique. How to use fabric scraps to build pictures. How to simply layer fabrics, and apply them to your project. We use modern methods of heat and bond, show you traditional applique and shadow applique. We have a wealth of scrap fabrics here that can be used.

You may bring in something to applique if you wish or add to plain fabrics that can be turned into something later.
